Where light transforms into healing and art

In the heart of the University Children's Hospital Zurich, James Turrell's Skyspace 'SUSTENANCE 2024' offers a refuge of light and tranquility. After a stirring conversation, a delicate procedure, or a difficult diagnosis, a stay at Skyspace offers a welcome distraction. Through the contemplative perception of light and sky, it invites you to pause and engage in meditative relaxation.

Turrell's Vision, Zumtobel's Precision

Realised by Zumtobel, this dome-shaped art installation unites emotional intensity with technical mastery.

Movable roof and adjustable lighting for an immersive experience

The structure, constructed from 3D-milled blocks and tensioned steel bands, is earthquake and fire-resistant. A controllable LED system orchestrates light in harmony with the sky, while a retractable roof ensures safety near the helicopter landing pad. The result: a transcendent experience that facilitates healing through light, space, and tranquility.

"James Turrell is an absolute perfectionist, which is why he was particularly taken with the Skyspace at the Zurich Children's Hospital. It's just astonishing how everything interacts here."
says Wolfgang Häusler, gallerist
